Adoption Policies
Greyhound Adoption Service, Inc. reserves the right to refuse any adoption which in the agency's opinion is not in the best interest of the dog.
Greyhound Adoption Service, Inc. reserves the right to refuse adoption to families with children aged 6 years and under.
Greyhound Adoption Service does not ship dogs.
Greyhound Adoption Service is not a boarding kennel.
Greyhound Adoption Service does not put dogs on hold for future adoption. There are just too many greyhounds in need of families. Once a dog is adopted, it must be taken to the new home within a week. Once a greyhound goes home, another adoptee comes into the kennel - sometimes a soon as an hour later.
Greyhound Adoption Service requires all potential adopters to come to the kennel to meet and select their dogs. This is the best way to increase the likelihood of a successful adoption. Help is available from Greyhound Adoption Service in locating overnight accommodations for adopters coming from out of state.
The adoption fee of $250 is non-refundable.
All adopters must sign an application form contract before adoption. The adopter's signature on the contract indicates agreement with all items specified on the form.
No greyhound is released from the kennel unless the dog is neutered or spayed.
No dog with track injuries will be released from the kennel until veterinary treatment is complete.
Greyhound Adoption Service does its best to accurately test the greyhounds for their ability to live with cats. The testing is not guaranteed. Adopters with cats should ask to witness a cat test of any greyhound in which they are interested prior to adoption.
